A food forest simulates the natural ecosystem of a forest, creating a multi-layered, resilient, self-sustained and incredibly productive edible space for city dwellers. The Vielwald group at KISD are working to turn the Hundewiese on Maternusstraße in Südstadt into a food forest. The aim is to create a lush, generous forests which activates the local community and brings life to the urban landscape. The long-term goal is to grow a diversity of plants for food, materials, and dyes which can be transformed in the KISD labs.
Under the leadership of Anna Luz Pueyo, we hosted an action day in April 2024 to engage with the neighbourhood. On this occasion, three maps where designed and presented: a map of the future Vielwald, a map of stakeholders within a 300 metres radius, and a map of stakeholders within a 600 metres radius.
