The Service Design Challenge for students, initiated by Philips Experience Design and the Service Design College, is a global competition which challenges transdisciplinary student teams from all over the world to work collaboratively in finding human-centric solutions to some of today’s most pressing problems. This year’s topic was “how to design for a happier society” and the task “design a service that contributes to a happier society.”
The challenge sums four rounds loosely based around the four stages of the double diamond: Identify & Explore; Empathize & Discover; Frame & Define; Ideate & Develop. I was primarily involved in the first round for which the goal was to explore wellbeing in all its facets, identify potential local opportunities, and write a detailed design proposal incl. a video introducing the team.
Together with Jutta Meisel, Tom Thielen, Polina Toumey, and Theo Zöllner, I designed a service helping people with autism to be less lonely. Our proposal and the developed service was amongst the challenge finalists. Our group was supervised by Prof. Birgit Mager.
